Discover the area
St Aulaye http://www.tourisme-saintaulaye.fr/ is a Bastide town dating back to 1288 situated on the banks of the River Dronne. It boasts a delightful river beach only 400 metres from our front door where, during the summer months, the swimming area is supervised during the afternoons, there are canoes and pedalos available for hire and there is a bar, restaurant and pizza hut. Opposite the beach is the public swimming pool and water flumes. A short walk in the other direction brings you into the centre of the town where you will find a few shops and amenities and a little further on there is a Carrefour supermarket and petrol station. The town has a few bars and restaurants and we thoroughly recommend the most recently opened bar, L’Avalon www.facebook.com/Lavalon-693246654402834/
Nearby
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, only 8km away and one of the "Plus beaux villages de France", is well worth a visit with its subterranean monolithic church, narrow hilly streets and wonderful views; bustling, colourful markets in the nearby towns of Chalais (Monday mornings) and Riberac (Friday mornings); the leisure facilities at the Grand Etang de la Jemaye.
